Hello Lakes Boosters,

Last weekend was very disappointing.
But we are working hard as team to be ready for this weekend in Fukuoka.
We are very focused.

A couple weeks ago I went to Nara on my off-day.
It was really cool, I went to see Todaiji and feed the deer.
The giant Buddha was really impressive.
The deer were cool. I bought biscuits to feed them, but they are crazy!
I would feed one deer and then another would bite my leg to try to get me to feed it.
I ended up breaking the biscuits and throwing them on the ground as I ran away from the deer.
I think me running away from a bunch of deer was a very funny sight for Japanese people to see!

Yesterday me and Machi visited Giou elementary school in Yasu.
I had fun visiting school. I like playing with kids, and the clinics give me a chance to learn my Japanese.
I am not good at speaking Japanese but I am trying to learn.
I can't write or read any Japanese.
I haven't tried to learn, it looks too confusing for me.

Hello Lakes Boosters,

先週末は本当に残念でした。
でも今週末の福岡戦に向けてしっかり準備しています。
みんな集中しています。

何週間か前の休日に奈良に行きました。
東大寺に行ったり鹿に餌をやったり本当に楽しかったですよ。
大仏は圧巻でしたね。鹿もおもしろかったです。
せんべいを買って、鹿にやってたんですが、本当におもしろいですね。
１匹にやると、他の鹿が欲しがって足を噛んでくるんですよ。
せんべいをバラバラにして地面に投げつけて逃げました。
僕が鹿の大群から走って逃げる姿は日本人の目にどう映ってたんでしょうか？？

昨日は、マチと２人で野洲の祇王小学校を訪問しました。
学校訪問は大好きです。
子どもと遊ぶのは楽しいし、何より日本語の勉強になるんですよね。
あまりしゃべれませんが一生懸命勉強しています。
書いたり読んだりは難しすぎて勉強したことないですが。

Hey Lakes Boosters,

Well our trip to Okinawa was not perfect, but it was a success. Winning on their floor allowed us to regain sole possession of fourth place, which is very important. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going and use it for Takamatsu at the end of January. Thanks to the Lakes Boosters who made it down to Okinawa for our games, it was awesome to have you there.

This weekend we don't have games, but I want to say congrats to Wara for making the All-Star team and Machi for being selected to the dunk contest. I hope they both have a great time in Oita.

Okinawa was very beautiful. I was excited to go there, a couple of my uncles were stationed there with the U.S. military. I have heard many good things about Okinawa, and they were true. It was nice to walk around in shorts and a tshirt in the middle of January.

After coming back from Okinawa, I really wanted to go to 甲賀市 to see the famous ninja village. So I got Bobby and Shinya to go with me to the old ninja house that was built for Mochizuki Izumonokami. It was awesome to walk around in. I wish the tour was in English, I would have loved to know more. The trap doors and secret escapes were awesome. At the end of the tour we even got to throw some Shuriken!

After the ninja house, Bobby, Shiny and I went to a golf range to hit some balls. I found out that Bobby can hit the ball a kilometer and Shinya.....maybe he is not the next Tiger Woods. It was a great off-day, and now I'm ready for some hard practices to get ready for the rest of the season.

Hey Lakes Boosters,

沖縄遠征は完璧ではなかったですが、合格点だったんじゃないかと思います。
１勝１敗ではありましたが、単独４位に戻りましたし、これは非常に重要なことです。
できればこの勢いのまま次の高松戦に臨めたらと思います。
沖縄まで来てくれたレイクスブースター、本当にありがとうございました。

今週末は試合がありません。
オールスターに選出されたワラとダンクコンテストに出場するマチを祝福したいと思います。
是非、大分で楽しんできてほしいですね。

沖縄は本当にきれいな所でしたよ。叔父の何人かがアメリカ軍として駐在していたこともあって、沖縄に行くのが楽しみだったんです。
よく聞かされた沖縄の良い話も全部本当でした。
１月にTシャツと短パンで外を歩けるのは最高ですね。

沖縄から戻ってきてからは、“甲賀市”の忍者村にずっと行きたかったので、ボビーとシンヤをつかまえて行きました。
“モチヅキ　イズモノカミ”のために建てられたという古い忍者屋敷は、中を歩くとその素晴らしさがよくわかりました。
案内が英語であればもっと色んなことがわかったのに、と思います。
仕掛け扉や秘密出口もすごいですね。最後には手裏剣投げもしましたよ！

忍者屋敷のあとはゴルフの打ちっぱなしに行きました。
ボビーはヤードどころかキロ単位でも飛ばす勢いでしたが、シンヤは・・・残念ながらタイガー･ウッズにはなれませんね。
良い休日になり、これで残りのシーズンに向けたハードな練習の準備ができました。

Konbanwa Lakes Boosters,

After a nice break we're back at it again. I feel like we've had a good week of practice and are prepared for this weekend. We're back in Otsu playing Fukuoka two times. This weekend is going to be HUGE, we need all the support we can get so please come out!

Now this may seem a little strange, but I've talked about this with some of the other Americans and they agreed with me. It doesn't relate to basketball, but it's a funny little thing I've noticed. Young Japanese kids are awesome. Much cuter than American kids in my opinion. American kids are much louder and are always crying. Japanese kids are so well-behaved. Maybe it's because when they look at us their eyes get so huge because we are so big and so different than what they are used to.

Well that's all for now. I took this picture of a cute little kid I saw when I visited Osaka Castle recently.

充実した休暇から戻ってきました。
この１週間良い練習ができ、明日、明後日に向けて準備ができました。
県立体育館で福岡と２連戦です。
今週末は本当に重要です。
みんなの応援が必要です。必ず来てください！

少し不思議に思われるかもしれませんが、他のアメリカ人も納得してくれたことがあります。
バスケットボールとは関係ないですが、おもしろいことに気付きました。
日本の小さい子どもたちは素晴らしいと思います。
アメリカの子どもよりずっとかわいいし、アメリカの子どもはもっとうるさくていつも泣いてるような気がします。
それに比べて日本の子どもたちは良い子ですね。
もしかすると、普段見たことのない僕たちのような大きな人間を見て目を丸くしているからそう思うだけなのかもしれませんが。

今日はこんなところで。
写真は、つい最近大阪城に行った時にかわいい男の子を見たので撮りました。

Hey Lakes Boosters,

Sorry I’ve been absent from the blog for so long.

Our trip to Oita didn’t go as well as we’d hoped, but the team showed some real heart and we came out on top on Sunday. Bashi and Yuta really sparked us with their great defense off the bench.

I’d like to thank my family, friends and Lakes Boosters for giving me a wonderful Christmas. It’s hard being away from my family on Christmas, so I’m a little relieved that it is over.

Well 2008 is over, I hope the Lakes Boosters have had as great a year as I had. The end of December means I have been in Japan for five months now. The generosity of the Japanese people has really made these months fly by. Thanks for a great last five months of 2008 Shiga!

Now that 2008 is over, it’s time to focus on 2009. We have goals we want to accomplish, and our determination is only strengthened by the New Year. We have two huge games with Fukuoka coming up; we need all the support we can get from you Lakes Boosters!

Hey Lakes Boosters,

久しぶりの更新です。

大分遠征は思い通りにはなりませんでしたが、日曜日は強い気持ちで臨み、勝つことができました。
ベンチスタートのバシとユウタが素晴らしいディフェンスでチームを引っ張ってくれました。

素敵なクリスマスが過ごせたことを家族や友人、そしてレイクスブースターに感謝します。
家族と離れて過ごすクリスマスは本当に辛いので、もう過ぎてしまって少しホッとしています。

2008年がもう終わります。
僕と同じようにレイクスブースターの皆さんも充実した１年だったんじゃないでしょうか。
１２月いっぱいで日本に来て５ヶ月になります。
皆さんのおかげであっという間の５ヶ月でした。
本当にありがとうございました。

２００８年が終わり、次は２００９年に集中する時です。
達成したい、しなければいけない目標があります。
新年を迎えるにあたり、この決意をさらに強いものにしたいと思います。
福岡との２戦、とても重要な試合になります。
レイクスブースター全員の応援が必要です！！

Hello Lakes Boosters!!

Major kudos to the boosters who made it all the way to Sendai to cheer us on! Thanks so much!
It was a long trip to Sendai, luckily we don't have to play them again. Sendai is so far away!
The trip home wasn't as bad though.
Along the way we stopped at a rest stop in the mountains and had a team snowball fight.
I'm pretty sure my teammates would agree that I was the MVP of the snowball fight.
Until Shinya and Wara double-teamed me and rubbed my face in the snow.

We didn't do as well as we'd hoped in Sendai, we always want to come away with two wins.
But battling the bus ride, the difficult loss we suffered on Friday and a very good team in Sendai, it was good to win one game.
This weekend we have some tough games against Takamatsu, I'm looking forward to them.

A few boosters have written in apologizing for their English or for disturbing me if you meet me around Shiga.
Please don't worry about it, I like talking to fans and don't get upset at all if your English isn't very good. It gives me a good chance to practice my Japanese!
The Americans on the team may be tall and look scary but I promise none of us are.

Oh, and I definitely was not the MVP of the snowball fight.
I thought maybe I would blend in with the snow because I'm so white, but Mike nailed me a couple times.

仙台まで応援に駆けつけてくれたブースターは賞賛に値します！
本当にありがとうございました！
仙台えの移動は長かったですが、幸いなことにもう対戦はありません。
本当に仙台は遠かったです！
でも帰りはそんなに大変じゃなかったですよ。
帰りは山の中で止まって休憩を取ったので、そこで雪合戦をしました。
雪合戦のMVPは間違いなく僕だと思います。
シンヤとワラが２人がかりで僕の顔に雪を当ててきましたが。。

仙台戦は思い通りの結果にはなりませんでした。
アウェイに遠征に行った時はいつも２勝して帰ってくることしか考えていません。
でも仙台は良いチームでしたし、金曜日に悔しい負けをしながらも１勝できたことは大きかったです。
今週末は高松と再びタフな試合がありますが、楽しみです。

英語が上手くないから申し訳ないとか、街中で見かけても邪魔したくないと、コメントをくれるブースターがいますが、気にしないでください。
皆さんと話すのは楽しいですし、英語が上手くなくても気にしないでください。
僕が日本語を練習するチャンスでもありますから！
アメリカ人の選手は背が高くて見た目も怖いかもしれませんが、全員そんなことないですよ。

そういえば、雪合戦のMVPは僕じゃないですね。
僕は白いんで雪の中では見えなくなるんですが、それでもマイクに何回か当てられた気がします。
